| The
Cases We Handle:
Our practice focuses on people - people who are injured
or disabled - who have workers' compensation claims
pending before the North Carolina Industrial Commission (the
government agency in Raleigh that decides all cases filed
under the North Carolina Workers' Compensation Act for on-the-job
injuries) or who have had claims either denied or ignored
by their employer/insurance company. Lung disease, occupational
cancer, asbestosis, mesothelioma, silicosis and other occupational
diseases are also claims we handle.Leonard Jernigan is board
certified in this field and the firm has been practicing almost
exclusively in this area for over 30 years. He has tried hundreds
of cases before the Industrial Commission and has successfully
handled appeals to the Full Commission, N.C.Court of Appeals
and the N.C. Supreme Court. Our practice is statewide and
not limited to Raleigh. (We have represented people as far
west as Asheville and as far east as Nags Head.)
We have found that some workplace injuries also involve civil claims (jury trials) against third parties (those other than employers or co-workers) who caused the injury. For example, you may have been involved in a car accident while on an assignment, or you were injured from a defective product sold to your employer, or a third party was negligent at your workplace and caused injury. We also handle these cases and are willing to take your case to a jury trial, if necessary.
